Shang Long Funeral Home

Shang Long Funeral Home

Shang Long Funeral Home is an innovative contemporary funeral facility located in Taipei City, Taiwan, completed in December 2021, that reimagines the traditional concept of memorial spaces through thoughtful interior design and architectural elements. The 400-square-meter facility represents a paradigm shift in funeral home design, featuring a sophisticated circular motif behind the reception counter that symbolizes the eternal cycle of life and completeness. The interior space encompasses one reception area, one rest area, one private room, two worship areas, three Buddha Halls, and amenities, all carefully crafted to create a serene and dignified environment. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, masterfully incorporates warm lighting, subdued color palettes, and spacious circulation areas to alleviate the psychological burden often associated with funeral spaces. The facility's distinctive features include steel brushed veneer, marble tiles, and titanium-plated metal finishes, complemented by a sophisticated integration of natural elements and contemporary design principles. The thoughtfully curated material palette combines white, elegant gray, and peaceful blue tones to embody a pure and tranquil brand image, while wooden elements in varying shades create a structured yet welcoming atmosphere. The design team, led by Don Wang and Ray Zheng, has successfully created an environment that balances reverence with comfort, incorporating modern technologies such as electronic memorial screens and implementing curved architectural elements that promote a sense of flow and continuity throughout the space. The facility's innovative approach extends to its Buddha Halls, where contemporary linear designs merge with traditional religious elements to create a sacred atmosphere enhanced by carefully considered lighting solutions.
