SH 12 Wall Clock
SH 12 Wall Clock is an innovative timepiece that masterfully explores the relationship between objects and their shadows, designed by Malaysian designer Weena Lee. This sophisticated wall clock represents a philosophical interpretation of time's subconscious nature, revealing hours through the interplay of light and shadow beneath an elastic fabric surface. The design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, exemplifies a harmonious fusion of functionality and artistic expression. The clock's construction incorporates a thoughtfully engineered combination of hard and soft materials, featuring a wooden frame, elastic fabric, brass elements, MDF, and ABS components, with dimensions of 200mm width, 230mm height, and 30mm depth. The most crucial component, the clock pointer, is 3D printed to maintain stable shadow projection despite the fabric's tension. The design's conceptual foundation draws inspiration from natural light phenomena and traditional time-telling methods, presenting a modern interpretation for contemporary living spaces. The clock's unique mechanism relies on precisely calculated measurements between the fabric and pointer to ensure accurate time display, while the careful selection of materials and structural elements creates an elegant, precious appearance. The design allows for practical maintenance, with the fabric being washable and replaceable, ensuring long-term functionality while maintaining its aesthetic appeal. This timepiece, recognized at the A' Design Award competition, represents a significant innovation in clock design, offering a poetic interpretation of time measurement while maintaining practical functionality for everyday use.
