Sertao Side Table

Sertao Side Table

Sertao Side Table is an innovative piece of Brazilian furniture design that pays homage to the iconic modernist painting Abaporu (1928) by Tarsila do Amaral, translating its distinctive aesthetic principles into functional furniture form. Created by architect and designer Gabriela Campos, this sculptural side table masterfully combines organic shapes with practical functionality, featuring fluid lines and a challenging visual balance that creates an engaging dialogue between form and purpose. The piece, standing at 50 cm in height with a width of 45 cm and depth of 30 cm, is meticulously handcrafted in Cruzilia, Minas Gerais, utilizing an MDF structure finished with lacquer paint and American oak. The design's distinctive aesthetic draws directly from Brazilian modernist art movements, incorporating soft yet vivid tones and creating a graceful equilibrium between artistic expression and functional design. The table's unique structural composition challenges traditional furniture design conventions while maintaining stability and usability, representing a significant achievement in contemporary Brazilian furniture design. This innovative approach to furniture design earned recognition through a Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, acknowledging its creative merit and contribution to the field. The piece exemplifies the intersection of art and functionality, demonstrating how historical artistic influences can be successfully translated into contemporary design objects.
