Secret & Healing Water Table Office

Secret & Healing Water Table Office

Secret & Healing Water Table Office is an innovative interior design project that reimagines the traditional office environment by seamlessly integrating elements of nature and outdoor spaces into the indoor workspace. Completed in September 2016 by Japanese architect Ryoji Iedokoro, this 196-square-meter office space challenges conventional workplace design paradigms by creating an environment that simulates working outdoors. The centerpiece of the design is a distinctive table featuring a water-like surface, crafted through a sophisticated process involving three-layered wood panels cut in houndstooth check pattern using laser technology, with strategically positioned steel legs for optimal balance. The table's unique finish is achieved through a meticulous painting technique that combines multiple colors applied with brushes and spatulas, controlled by varying air compressor pressures to create a water-surface effect. The space's architectural elements further reinforce the outdoor aesthetic, with exterior building materials repurposed for interior walls, abundant natural greenery, exposed ceiling infrastructure reminiscent of climbing vines, deck-style flooring, and nut-inspired pendant lighting. This innovative approach to workplace design, which earned a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2017, is founded on the principle that human beings' inherent connection to nature transcends evolving business practices and work styles. The design demonstrates how biophilic elements can be incorporated into professional environments to enhance worker comfort, productivity, and overall well-being, while simultaneously creating a unique aesthetic that challenges traditional office design conventions.
