Seawool Cape

Seawool Cape is an innovative sustainable textile design that represents a significant advancement in eco-friendly fashion accessories, combining environmental consciousness with functional performance. This groundbreaking design, created by Chungsheng Chen, Eddie Wang, and Enyang Chen, transforms waste materials into a premium fashion accessory by utilizing a unique combination of recycled PET bottles and nanolized oyster shell powder from discarded shells, addressing the significant environmental challenge of oyster shell waste in Taiwan, where more than 160,000 tons of oyster shells are discarded annually. The cape, weighing merely 300 grams and measuring 180cm x 70cm, exemplifies sustainable luxury through its sophisticated production process, where oyster shells undergo a meticulous transformation involving washing, drying, and calcination at 100°C for 5 hours before being ground to sub-micron powder and combined with recycled PET using a proprietary formula. This innovative textile delivers multiple performance benefits, including thermal regulation, odor resistance, moisture management, quick-drying capabilities, and natural antibacterial properties without chemical agents, all while maintaining a soft, wool-like texture. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Sustainable Products, Projects and Green Design category, showcases how waste materials can be transformed into high-performance fashion accessories while addressing environmental concerns. Available in five distinct colors, the cape's versatility extends to various settings, from office environments to casual outdoor use, representing a harmonious blend of sustainability, functionality, and aesthetic appeal.
