Sea Stellar Residential

Sea Stellar Residential

Sea Stellar Residential is an award-winning interior design project that exemplifies the sophisticated integration of modern aesthetics with functional living requirements in a coastal urban environment, specifically conceived for a multi-generational family comprising young children and elderly residents within a 166-square-meter apartment in Hong Kong. This residential interior design demonstrates a comprehensive approach to addressing the unique challenges inherent in seaside living, particularly the management of humidity and environmental factors that significantly impact coastal dwellings, through strategic implementation of damp-proofing techniques for ceilings and walls, optimized air conditioning layouts with carefully positioned supply and return vents, and sun protection treatments for materials positioned near windows to minimize heat gain while maximizing the aesthetic benefits of ocean-reflecting natural light. The design philosophy underlying Sea Stellar Residential draws inspiration from the metaphorical concept of a guiding star providing stability and direction within the vast expanse of the ocean, translating this ethereal concept into a tangible living environment through the employment of soft beige color palettes that establish visual unity and tranquility throughout the space, complemented by organic furnishings including marble tables and leather chairs that introduce natural tactile elements. The spatial configuration features an open-plan layout encompassing living, dining, and kitchen areas that facilitates seamless movement and promotes familial interaction, while the accommodation includes four bedrooms and four bathrooms designed to meet the diverse needs of multiple generations. Distinctive design elements include curved false ceiling light troughs that introduce dimensional depth and visual interest, wooden panels and display shelves that integrate biophilic design principles, hidden corridor doors that reinforce a minimalist aesthetic, and lightweight furnishings that provide spatial flexibility for various activities and configurations. The incorporation of advanced technology through projector installation enhances the entertainment capabilities of the residence, delivering superior visual and auditory experiences that elevate the quality of domestic life. The design successfully addresses the complex interplay between interior atmosphere and exterior coastal environment through careful consideration of material selection, tonal adjustments, and lighting design that harmonizes with ocean reflections while maintaining indoor comfort and functionality. Sea Stellar Residential represents a thoughtful response to contemporary residential design challenges in high-density urban coastal contexts, balancing the practical requirements of family living with aspirational qualities of comfort, sophistication, and connection to the natural maritime environment. The project received recognition through the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2025, acknowledging its demonstration of professional design standards, practical innovation, and creative capacity in addressing real-world residential design challenges through solutions that enhance quality of life. The design methodology employed in Sea Stellar Residential reflects extensive research into humidity management strategies, environmental harmonization, and the psychological impacts of coastal living on residential interior atmospheres, resulting in a cohesive design solution that successfully mediates between the tranquil beauty of seaside location and the functional demands of urban family life. The project completion in July 2023 represents a contemporary interpretation of residential interior design that prioritizes both immediate livability and long-term durability, incorporating industry best practices in material selection, spatial planning, and environmental control systems while maintaining aesthetic coherence through consistent application of design principles across all interior elements.
