Saucer Lights With Snuffers

Saucer Lights With Snuffers

Saucer lights with snuffers are a type of lighting fixture that was popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These fixtures consist of a saucer-shaped shade that is suspended from the ceiling by a chain or rod, and a snuffer that is attached to the bottom of the shade. The snuffer is used to extinguish the flame of the candle or gas jet that illuminates the shade. The saucer shade of these fixtures is typically made of glass or metal, and may be decorated with intricate patterns or designs. The snuffer is usually made of metal, and may be ornately designed as well. The saucer shade and snuffer are often designed to match each other, creating a cohesive look for the fixture. Saucer lights with snuffers were commonly used in homes, hotels, and other public spaces during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They were often used in areas where a soft, diffused light was desired, such as dining rooms, sitting rooms, and bedrooms. The snuffer allowed the user to easily extinguish the flame when the light was no longer needed, making these fixtures both functional and decorative. Today, saucer lights with snuffers are less commonly used, as electric lighting has largely replaced candles and gas jets. However, antique saucer lights with snuffers are highly sought after by collectors and can be found in many antique shops and online marketplaces.
