Samsara Cosmic Series Lights & Furniture

Samsara Cosmic Series Lights & Furniture

Samsara Cosmic Series Lights & Furniture is an innovative collection of experimental sculptural interior pieces that seamlessly merges sustainable materials with traditional craftsmanship, created by designer Avni Sejpal. This distinguished series, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, represents a groundbreaking approach to material manipulation and artistic expression. The collection features a sophisticated combination of cork, rubber, and brass, expertly crafted using traditional wood lathing techniques unconventionally applied to industrial materials. Drawing inspiration from cosmic bodies and the bold geometric aesthetics of the Memphis movement, the series interprets the cyclical nature of existence through recurring circular bands and rings, symbolizing the concepts of birth, life, death, and rebirth. Each piece, ranging from 20 to 50 centimeters in height, is meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans, demonstrating exceptional attention to material density combinations and structural integrity. The collection's distinctive characteristic lies in its ability to transform industrial materials into striking architectural forms through an innovative synthesis of materials, color, and form, challenging conventional applications of industrial materials in furniture and lighting design. The series, developed between November 2014 and March 2015, exemplifies sustainable design principles while maintaining high aesthetic standards, successfully bringing warmth and elegance to otherwise utilitarian materials through the integration of local arts and crafts techniques. This groundbreaking approach to lighting and furniture design, which was showcased at the prestigious Salone Satellite 2015 in Milan, demonstrates how experimental design techniques can create functional art pieces that contribute to both environmental sustainability and contemporary interior aesthetics.
