Sailing Castle Pavilion
Sailing Castle Pavilion is an innovative architectural installation that masterfully combines traditional wooden craftsmanship with contemporary design aesthetics, created by artist Cheng Tsung Feng. This remarkable structure, measuring 886cm in width, 610cm in depth, and reaching a height of 800cm, serves as a symbolic representation of the maritime heritage of Donggang's coastal region. The pavilion's distinctive design features harmoniously intertwined white sails integrated within a sophisticated wooden framework, crafted from FSC-certified Taiwanese cedar, embodying the enchanting imagery of multiple sailboats converging at a harbor. The architectural composition draws inspiration from local cultural elements, incorporating design attributes reminiscent of temples, churches, and shrines, while presenting a transformative visual experience that evolves from day to night. The structure's environmental consciousness is evident in its sustainable approach, utilizing locally-sourced materials and implementing a comprehensive recycling strategy for post-exhibition components. The pavilion, which garnered recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, demonstrates exceptional structural engineering that enables it to withstand strong winds while maintaining a visually lightweight appearance. The installation's cultural significance extends beyond its physical presence, serving as an interactive space that metaphorically represents the prosperity of the local fishing industry, community unity, and collective aspirations, while its innovative lighting design creates an immersive experience that celebrates both traditional heritage and modern architectural possibilities.
