Safira Griplight Lighting

Safira Griplight Lighting

Safira Griplight Lighting is an innovative bicycle illumination system that seamlessly integrates front lighting and directional indicators into the handlebar grip design, representing a significant advancement in cycling safety and ergonomics. This sophisticated lighting solution, designed by Daw-Heng Wong, Chou-Hang Yang, and Yi-Hsin Lee, addresses the common challenge of cluttered handlebars in modern cycling while maximizing functionality through intelligent design integration. The system features a 400-lumen output and holds German K-mark Bikelight certification, demonstrating its compliance with stringent safety standards. Constructed using a combination of PC (polycarbonate) for the light body, silicon for the grip component, and aluminum for the C-ring, the design cleverly utilizes the hollow space within the handlebar as a battery compartment, maximizing power capacity while maintaining a clean, streamlined appearance. The development, which took place between April 2015 and February 2016 in HsinChu, Taiwan, emerged in response to growing environmental consciousness and increased bicycle adoption as a sustainable transportation alternative. The design's technical innovation lies in its ability to seamlessly blend high-luminosity front lighting with directional indicators while maintaining structural integrity and ensuring efficient power transfer from the handlebar-housed battery to the lighting system. Measuring 203mm in width, 72mm in length, and 75mm in height, the Safira Griplight Lighting represents a compact yet powerful solution that earned recognition with a Golden A' Design Award in the Product Engineering and Technical Design category, acknowledging its exceptional contribution to cycling safety and design innovation.
