Rurutiki In White Earth Office Space is an innovative e-commerce office space design that harmoniously blends natural elements with functional workspace requirements, created by Malaysian designer Summer Chang Hin Cheong. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning interior project, completed in 2021, spans 1,105 square meters and draws inspiration from the memory of a horse named Rurutiki, conceptualizing the space as a journey through diverse natural landscapes including jungle, oasis, and ocean environments. The design's distinctive feature lies in its sophisticated implementation of horseshoe-inspired architectural elements, manifested through carefully calculated arc formations in walls and ceilings. The interior employs a thoughtful earth-tone color palette, incorporating organic materials such as wood and stone, complemented by a strategic mixture of real and artificial plants that create a biophilic atmosphere. Following the innovative 6211 design rule methodology, the space allocation dedicates 6% to visual and functional space utilization, 60% to space planning, 20% to color scheme development, and 10% each to lighting design and thematic storytelling. Despite challenges posed by fire protection regulations limiting natural light penetration, the design successfully creates a harmonious work environment that promotes both relaxation and productivity. The project represents a significant achievement in contemporary office design, particularly in its response to post-2020 workplace wellness considerations, incorporating environmental consciousness and natural elements to support occupant wellbeing.
