Robert Goodnough

Robert Goodnough (1917-2010) was an American abstract painter and an important figure in the Color Field school of painting. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and studied at the School of Industrial Art and the Philadelphia College of Art. His early works were rooted in Abstract Expressionism, but his later works featured large color fields, which were often brushed with a show of calligraphic lines. He also experimented with 'allover' abstraction, which involved covering entire surfaces with evenly distributed strokes of color. Some of his notable works include Gathering (1953), Arizona Landscape (1965), and King's Court (1966).
