Roam Slowly Residential House
Roam Slowly Residential House is an innovative residential architectural project completed in 2016 in Taichung City, Taiwan, exemplifying a harmonious blend of contemporary design principles and natural elements across its four-story structure. This thoughtfully conceived dwelling, designed by Shu Lan Ho and Chen Chih-Yang, demonstrates a sophisticated approach to spatial organization, with a clear delineation between public and private spaces. The ground floor houses the communal areas, including the lounge and dining room, while the second and third floors are dedicated to private quarters featuring primary and secondary bedrooms, culminating in a living room on the fourth floor. The design's distinctive aesthetic is characterized by its integration of natural materials, particularly the prominent use of cedar wood, which extends vertically through the ceiling, creating a forest-like ambiance enhanced by strategic ceiling windows that channel natural light and exterior greenery into the interior spaces. The 230-square-meter residence showcases a refined material palette combining architectural concrete, glass, and steel components in a monochromatic color scheme that emphasizes simplicity and tranquility. Notable design features include the sophisticated lounge area with its vertically oriented cedar wood elements, a minimalist gray concrete television wall, and thoughtfully curated furniture that maintains consistent color tonality throughout. The kitchen and dining area incorporate sound cedar tables and chairs, creating an experience akin to dining beneath a natural canopy, while the uncoated cedar wood elements serve both aesthetic and functional purposes, naturally regulating indoor climate conditions and providing aromatic qualities that enhance the sensory experience. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning project in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category represents a masterful integration of functional design with biophilic principles, creating a living environment that promotes slow-paced, mindful living through its thoughtful spatial arrangement and material selection.
