R S A Residential House
R S A Residential House is an innovative residential architectural project completed in 2017 in Delhi, India, designed by architects Deepti Bansal and Joaquim C Rodrigues, which exemplifies a harmonious blend of natural elements and contemporary design principles. The residence, situated on a 500-square-meter corner plot, features a distinctive north-facing orientation that maximizes its interaction with a striking red silk cotton tree, which became a central element in both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the design. The structure's most notable feature is an imposing 30-foot-tall backlit tree silhouette, meticulously crafted from stainless steel sheets, which pays homage to the actual tree's shadow patterns. The design incorporates large pivoted louvered windows, custom-engineered to handle their substantial teak wood construction, which filter natural light to create consistent, diffused interior illumination throughout the day. The house's innovative features include a triple-height staircase volume on the western facade that facilitates abundant natural ventilation and lighting in the central living spaces, and a sophisticated glass bridge connecting different sections at the first floor level. The boundary walls showcase local granite with intricate leaf patterns created through a combination of water jet technology and traditional artisanal craftsmanship. This environmentally conscious design, which won the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category in 2018, demonstrates exceptional attention to reducing electricity consumption through optimal natural light utilization while maintaining a strong connection to its surrounding environment.
