Qiushi Academy
Qiushi Academy is a distinguished architectural complex that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of traditional Chinese architectural elements with contemporary design principles, situated within a prominent academic setting. This multifunctional building complex, spanning 8,130 square meters, serves as a vital center for academic discourse, hosting conferences, exhibitions, and scholarly gatherings. The design masterfully integrates the dynamic characteristics of southern Chinese architecture with the solemnity of northern Chinese architectural traditions, creating a unique aesthetic dialogue between regional styles. The complex features an innovative structural system that employs modern reinforced concrete construction methods while maintaining traditional architectural forms, notably incorporating a hip-and-gable roof with double eaves that breaks from conventional temple and palace designs. The architectural composition is arranged around a central courtyard, following historical precedents while adapting to modern functional requirements. Notable technical innovations include the use of reflective coated glass in place of traditional timber plates under the eaves, enhancing natural light penetration while creating contemporary visual effects. The complex's sophisticated design successfully addresses complex engineering challenges, particularly in the integration of modern building systems within traditional architectural forms. The project, which was completed between 2014 and 2017, has been recognized for its excellence in cultural heritage design, receiving the Silver A' Design Award in the Cultural Heritage and Culture Industry Design category, acknowledging its significant contribution to preserving and reinterpreting traditional architectural values while serving modern educational needs.
