Productive Cooperative Union Mixed Use Building

Productive Cooperative Union Mixed use Building is an innovative architectural project located in proximity to the Great Pyramids of Giza, Egypt, exemplifying a harmonious blend of historical context and contemporary design principles. This Bronze A' Design Award-winning structure, designed by architect Sameh Farid, represents a sophisticated interpretation of the surrounding architectural heritage while incorporating modern functionality and sustainable design elements. The building, spanning 1,612 square meters of plot size with a total built-up area of 804 square meters and reaching a height of 21.5 meters, features a distinctive geometric composition inspired by the triangular forms of the pyramids, creating a visual dialogue with its historic surroundings. The structure employs green architecture principles, incorporating a central courtyard that facilitates natural lighting and ventilation throughout the building, while irregular glass curtain walls strategically manage solar radiation. The mixed-use development comprises five levels, with the ground and first floors dedicated to commercial spaces and the main entrance, second through fourth floors housing office spaces, and a rooftop level featuring both indoor and outdoor café and restaurant facilities. The building's exterior is characterized by beige stone cladding and geometric curtain walls, creating a contemporary landmark that respects its historical context while serving modern urban needs. The design successfully addresses multiple challenges, including the integration of diverse functions, environmental sustainability, and contextual sensitivity, earning recognition at the A' Design Award competition for its innovative approach to architectural design and cultural preservation.
