Printed Electric Circuits
Printed electric circuits, also known as printed circuit boards (PCBs), are a type of electronic circuit that is created by printing conductive pathways onto a non-conductive substrate. PCBs are widely used in electronic devices, ranging from simple calculators to complex computers and smartphones. The use of printed electric circuits has revolutionized the electronics industry, making it possible to create smaller, lighter, and more complex devices. The process of creating a printed electric circuit involves several steps. First, a design is created using computer-aided design (CAD) software. The design specifies the location of all the components, as well as the routing of the conductive pathways. Once the design is complete, it is printed onto a special type of paper or film, known as a photomask. The photomask is then used to transfer the design onto the substrate, typically made of fiberglass or plastic. The conductive pathways are created using a process known as etching. The substrate is coated with a layer of copper, and the photomask is placed on top. The substrate is then exposed to a chemical that dissolves the copper in the areas not covered by the photomask. This leaves behind the conductive pathways, which are then coated with a layer of solder mask to protect them from damage. Printed electric circuits have several advantages over other types of circuits. They are highly reliable, as the conductive pathways are protected from damage and corrosion. They are also easy to manufacture in large quantities, making them cost-effective for mass production. Additionally, printed electric circuits can be designed to be very compact, allowing for smaller and more portable devices.
