Pre-recorded Music Compact Discs
Pre-recorded music compact discs, commonly known as CDs, are a digital optical disc format used to store and playback music. CDs were introduced in the early 1980s as a replacement for vinyl records and cassette tapes. They quickly gained popularity due to their superior sound quality and durability. A standard CD has a diameter of 120mm and can hold up to 80 minutes of audio. The audio is stored as digital data in a series of pits and lands on the disc's surface. The disc is read by a laser beam that reflects off the surface of the disc and detects the changes in the pits and lands. The digital data is then converted back into an analog audio signal that can be played back through speakers or headphones. CDs revolutionized the music industry by making it possible to produce high-quality recordings in large quantities at a low cost. They also allowed for the creation of new genres of music, such as electronic dance music, that relied heavily on digital sampling and manipulation. Despite the rise of digital music streaming services, CDs remain popular among audiophiles and collectors. Many artists continue to release new music on CD, and there is a thriving market for used and rare CDs.
