Poul Cadovius

Poul Cadovius (1911-2011) was a renowned Danish artist best known for his abstract sculptures and public works. His early works often featured figural elements and natural shapes, such as his sculpture Girl with a Cat, which was installed in Copenhagen in 1954. His later works explored more abstract compositions and themes, such as The Guardian, a 19-foot-high sculpture created to celebrate the opening of the Aarhus City Hall in Denmark in 1967. His works were often informed by mythology and history, as seen in his bronze piece The Little Mermaid, dedicated to Hans Christian Andersen, which is located in Copenhagen's harbor and has become a beloved tourist attraction. Cadovius also created a number of public murals, many of which can still be seen in Denmark today, such as the mural Ulla's Tower in Holstebro.
