Porte-cochere
Porte-cochere is an architectural feature consisting of a covered entrance large enough for vehicles to pass through, typically opening into a courtyard or providing shelter at the main entrance of a building. The term porte-cochere is French, translating literally to coach gate. Historically, these structures were designed to allow horse-drawn carriages to enter and passengers to alight protected from the elements. In modern architecture, porte-cocheres serve a similar function for automobiles, allowing passengers to disembark under cover, shielded from weather conditions. They are often found in the design of hotels, public buildings, hospitals, and some large private residences. The porte-cochere is usually supported by columns, pillars, or arches, and may feature decorative elements that complement the overall architectural style of the building. Beyond its practical function, the porte-cochere also serves as a transitional space between the exterior and interior of the building, providing a sense of arrival and grandeur. It is an element that combines functionality with architectural aesthetics, reflecting both the practical needs and the stylistic character of the building it serves.

Porte-Cochere
The Porte-Cochere is a type of architectural structure in which a large, covered space is provided for the purpose of allowing a vehicle to drive up and park beneath its roof. It is typically found in front of large buildings, such as hotels, palaces, and churches, and is designed to serve as an entrance to the building itself, providing shelter and protection to vehicles, passengers, and other visitors. The structure is usually tall and wide, and is often decorated with columns, balustrades, and other ornamental features that reflect the building's overall style. The Porte-Cochere is a feature that has been used throughout history, and its design has evolved over time to reflect changing tastes and trends in architecture.
