Poro City Exhibition
Poro City Exhibition is an innovative architectural installation and exhibition space that exemplifies the transformation of mundane objects into extraordinary design elements. Created by designers Chieh-Ting, Yushan Martha and Kyoung Eun, this remarkable exhibition space utilizes 1,100 milk crates measuring 33 cm x 33 cm x 28 cm each, distributed across a 200-square-meter gallery space. The design philosophy centers on creating dialogue with Los Angeles communities through the innovative use of familiar objects, transforming utilitarian milk crates into a sophisticated architectural brick system that creates semi-transparent boundaries. The exhibition features strategically placed crates in vibrant colors - orange, yellow, and pink - each dominating different areas of the space while allowing visual interplay between sections. This Iron A' Design Award-winning project in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category demonstrates exceptional spatial design through its modular construction system, which enables rapid assembly and adaptability to various environments. The design draws inspiration from Los Angeles' iconic breeze block walls, incorporating undulating porous walls that frame views and emphasize the relationship between exhibition space and site. The installation's approach to sustainability and resourcefulness is evident in its repurposing of everyday objects, while its careful consideration of safety and functionality is reflected in the separate treatment of seating elements.
