Polysmans Illustration

Polysmans Illustration

Polysmans Illustration is an innovative series of minimalistic artistic works that explores the profound relationship between people and their personal mascots, created by Russian graphic designer and tattoo artist Anton Mikhalenkov. This distinctive collection, initiated in February 2017, employs a deliberate minimalistic approach utilizing simple shapes and colors to achieve maximum artistic impact, while investigating the fascinating phenomenon of how individuals imbue their chosen mascots with deep personal meaning and significance. The series, executed on 18 x 24 cm paper using colored pencils, demonstrates exceptional technical precision and artistic restraint, transforming everyday objects, animals, music, and images into powerful symbolic representations. The project's unique conceptual framework examines how mascots transcend their physical forms to become talismanic objects that people believe bring luck, happiness, and protection from negative forces. This innovative approach to illustration earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category for its creative excellence, technical mastery, and cultural relevance. The versatility of these illustrations is particularly noteworthy, as several pieces from the collection have been adapted into tattoo designs, demonstrating their resonance with audiences and their ability to transition effectively between different artistic mediums. The work represents a significant contribution to contemporary illustration practice, bridging the gap between traditional drawing techniques and modern symbolic representation while exploring the universal human tendency to seek meaning and protection through personal totems.
