Plungers
A plunger is a tool used to clear clogged drains and pipes. It consists of a rubber cup attached to a wooden or plastic handle. The rubber cup is placed over the drain or pipe opening and then pushed down and pulled up repeatedly to create suction and dislodge the blockage. Plungers are commonly used in household bathrooms and kitchens, but they are also used in industrial settings such as factories and restaurants. The design of the plunger is based on the principle of Pascal's law, which states that pressure applied to a fluid in a closed container is transmitted equally in all directions. When the plunger is pushed down, it creates a seal around the drain or pipe opening, and the pressure created by the downward force is transmitted to the water or other fluid in the pipe. As the plunger is pulled up, the pressure is released, creating a vacuum that can dislodge the blockage. There are different types of plungers available, each designed for specific purposes. The most common type is the cup plunger, which has a flat rubber cup that can seal around flat surfaces such as sinks and bathtubs. Another type is the flange plunger, which has an added rubber flap that can seal around curved surfaces such as toilets. There are also accordion plungers, which have a collapsible rubber cup that can fit into tight spaces. Plungers are an effective and inexpensive tool for clearing clogged drains and pipes. However, they should be used with caution, as excessive force can damage pipes and cause leaks. It is also important to ensure that the plunger is clean and free of debris before use to prevent contamination.
