Plié Lamp is an innovative lighting fixture designed by French boilermaker Jean Lagard that exemplifies minimalist design principles through its distinctive folded metal construction. The lamp, whose name derives from the French word for folded, features a sophisticated geometric form created from a single sheet of steel, expertly bent at precise angles to create a dynamic interplay between light and shadow. This masterful manipulation of metal demonstrates exceptional technical prowess in cold-bending techniques, particularly challenging given the material dimensions and thickness. The lamp's design allows for versatile functionality, serving both as a task light and ambient illuminator, with its sharply angled sides either fully revealing or subtly suggesting the warmth of its illumination through two metal folds. Standing at 250mm in height, with a width of 150mm and depth of 80mm, the lamp accommodates either LED or Edison E27 bulbs, offering multiple lighting possibilities. The design, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, represents a significant achievement in sustainable design through its efficient use of materials that might otherwise be discarded.
