Planta Queen Restaurant Bar is an innovative Asian-focused vegan restaurant interior design project that masterfully reimagines the traditional Chinese Hutong experience in a contemporary dining context. The design, created by Nivek Remas in 2018, transforms a pre-existing restaurant space through a thoughtful progression of dining environments that mirror the spatial journey through a traditional Hutong. The concept unfolds through three distinct zones: a casual street-side lower front bar featuring cobblestone elements, a transitional loggia space with rosy-brick colonnades, and a formal central courtyard dining area adorned with custom-designed Chinese maple trees and modern interpretations of traditional Chinese murals. The design successfully overcame the challenge of executing a soft renovation while maintaining all existing programming, utilizing innovative finishing techniques such as dried sandblasted wood planking, brick veneer, and concrete sheets with wood casting. The space incorporates custom elements including specially designed PDR drapery with Brentano Printed fabric and bespoke Chinese maple trees, creating an authentic yet contemporary atmosphere. The project, which won the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional spatial planning that responds to different dining experiences throughout the day, effectively balancing cultural references with modern design sensibilities while maintaining cultural sensitivity in its execution. The careful consideration of natural light progression and the transition from casual to fine dining experiences showcases sophisticated interior architecture that enhances the overall dining experience.
