Pinocchio Playing Cards
Pinocchio Playing Cards is an innovative and culturally significant playing card collection that reimagines Carlo Collodi's classic tale The Adventures of Pinocchio through sophisticated graphic design and illustration. The collection comprises three distinct decks: Sapphire, which focuses on the Blue Fairy and the story's positive elements; Vermilion, dedicated to the character Mangiafuoco; and the special Collodi's edition, which uniquely combines both decks in a book-like tuck box. Created in 2018, this Silver A' Design Award-winning project in the Toys, Games and Hobby Products category demonstrates exceptional attention to detail in both design and production, featuring custom illustrations for pips, backs, figures, and tuck boxes that create an interactive narrative puzzle within the traditional poker card format. The cards are manufactured using premium materials, including air-cushioned paper with a black-core center layer, and are enhanced with metallic Pantone colors and hot foil printing techniques. Each deck measures 65mm x 19mm x 91mm, with the Collodi's edition featuring a larger format at 65mm x 39mm x 91mm. The project's cultural significance lies in its faithful representation of the original novel's educational value and complex characters, serving as both a functional playing card set and a preservation of literary heritage. The design process involved extensive research into both playing card traditions and storytelling techniques, resulting in a sophisticated product that seamlessly integrates cultural narrative with gaming functionality. The innovative approach to storytelling through playing cards, combined with the meticulous attention to production quality and cultural authenticity, establishes this project as a significant contribution to both game design and cultural preservation.
