Pike Toy is an innovative articulated wooden doll designed by Tahsin Cetinoglu that serves multiple purposes as a recreational toy, artist's poser model, and stop-motion animation figure. This versatile creation, crafted from finger-jointed natural beech blocks using CNC milling technology, exemplifies thoughtful engineering and sustainable design principles. Standing at 245mm in height, the figure features a sophisticated joint mechanism system that employs ball-ended elastic cords, allowing for seamless assembly and disassembly without the need for additional tools. The unique tensioning system, created by these elastic cords, enables the figure to maintain various poses, making it particularly valuable for artistic applications. The design demonstrates exceptional attention to material integrity, utilizing unpainted wood to maintain a natural aesthetic and incorporating recycled sawdust from the manufacturing process to create the cord-end balls. The athletic body proportions and eighteen distinct wooden components, combined with twenty-six total parts including the elastic cords, offer extensive possibilities for creative positioning and play. This design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Toys, Games and Hobby Products Design category, represents a harmonious blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern manufacturing techniques. The toy's development, spanning from June 2019 to March 2021, involved extensive research into puppet mechanics, mannequin functionality, and articulated doll design, resulting in an innovative joint system that balances durability, mobility, and aesthetic appeal.
