Petti-pants
Petti-pants, also known as pettipants or petti-panties, are a type of undergarment that were popular in the mid-20th century. These garments are essentially a combination of a slip and a pair of shorts, designed to be worn under skirts or dresses. Petti-pants are typically made from lightweight, silky materials such as nylon or rayon, and feature an elastic waistband and short, loose-fitting legs that end just above the knee. One of the primary purposes of petti-pants was to provide an extra layer of coverage and modesty under short or sheer skirts. The shorts-like design of the garment helped to prevent accidental exposure, and the silky material allowed skirts and dresses to flow smoothly over the body. Petti-pants were also popular among dancers, as they provided a comfortable and practical alternative to traditional underwear. While petti-pants have largely fallen out of fashion in recent years, they remain a popular vintage item among collectors and enthusiasts. Some modern lingerie designers have also created updated versions of the garment, incorporating new materials and designs while still paying homage to the classic style.
