PetMoblant Mobile Planter
PetMoblant Mobile Planter is an innovative furniture design that seamlessly merges functionality with environmental consciousness, created by Lebanese designer Toufic Matta. This aerodynamic mobile planter, crafted through a sophisticated process of stacking birch plywood sheets, takes inspiration from the streamlined form of a water droplet, resulting in an elegant and purposeful design that addresses urban air quality concerns. The piece, measuring 56x43x24 centimeters, features a distinctive construction method where precisely cut plywood sections are meticulously aligned, clamped, and sanded to achieve a smooth, organic form, finished with a transparent protective layer and complemented by a custom CNC-cut aluminum frame for the top cover. The design's unique proposition lies in its mobility, equipped with wheels and designed to be walked like a pet, creating an interactive experience that combines the nurturing aspects of plant care with physical activity. This innovative approach to urban greening earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2019, acknowledging its contribution to sustainable design solutions. The planter's aerodynamic properties serve a dual purpose: facilitating movement while promoting seed dispersal through wind action during motion, effectively combining environmental benefit with user engagement. The design reflects a sophisticated understanding of parametric shapes and natural geometry, successfully translating the fluidity of water into a rigid wooden structure. Its conceptual foundation addresses contemporary environmental concerns, particularly urban air pollution, by creating a mobile solution that actively contributes to air purification while encouraging human-nature interaction in urban settings.
