Peter Hutchinson

Peter Hutchinson was a British artist who gained recognition for his unique approach to art-making that involved the use of everyday objects, such as paint, sweaters, and string, in his collages and assemblage works. He was born in London in 1930 and studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, where he was influenced by the teachings of William Coldstream and Claude Rogers. Hutchinson's work often explored the relationship between art and nature, and he was particularly interested in the idea of chance and the role it played in the creative process. One of Hutchinson's most significant contributions to the art world was his use of photography as an integral part of his art-making process. He would often take photographs of his works in progress, which he would then use as a reference for further development. This approach allowed him to create complex and layered works that were both visually striking and conceptually rich. Hutchinson's work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums, including the Tate Gallery, the Walker Art Gallery, and the Serpentine Gallery. In addition to his art-making, Hutchinson was also a prolific writer and educator. He published several books on art and creativity, including Paths to Creativity and The Art of Making Things Happen. He also taught art at various institutions, including the University of California, Santa Cruz, and the University of Minnesota. Hutchinson was a passionate advocate for the importance of creativity in all aspects of life, and his work continues to inspire artists and thinkers around the world.
