Penumbra Commercial Administrative is an innovative architectural project that exemplifies the intersection of static structure and interactive design, created by Iranian architect Reza Mafakher. This groundbreaking commercial building, located in Farah Abad Boulevard, Mazandaran, Iran, spans 1600 square meters and features a distinctive facade system that creates an illusion of movement through observer perspective. The building's most notable feature is its dynamic facade composed of vertical surfaces with contrasting black and white faces, constructed from CNC-machined solid aluminum panels measuring 200 by 1650 millimeters. These perforated panels are strategically designed to create unlimited visual sequences through the interplay of light, shadow, and viewer position, generating varying shades of neutral gray alongside environmental reflections that produce unique chromatic experiences specific to each moment and viewing angle. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, represents a significant advancement in transformable architecture, demonstrating how static elements can create dynamic visual experiences through thoughtful design and material application. The facade's innovative approach to interactive architecture is achieved without mechanical movement, instead relying on the observer's changing position to create different visual perceptions, while the building's integration into its surroundings creates a meaningful dialogue between architecture and environment, contributing to the boulevard's narrative sequence connecting the city of Sari to the Caspian Sea.
