Paulus Diaconus

Paulus Diaconus was not actually an artist, but rather a Lombard historian and monk who lived in the 8th century. He is best known for his historical works, particularly his Historia Langobardorum (History of the Lombards), which chronicles the history of the Lombard people from their origins to the 8th century. This work is considered one of the most important sources for the history of the Lombards and has been widely studied by historians. In addition to his historical works, Paulus Diaconus also wrote a number of hagiographical works, including Vita Sancti Gregorii Magni (Life of Saint Gregory the Great) and Vita Sancti Patrizii (Life of Saint Patrick). These works provide valuable insights into the lives of these important figures and the religious and cultural context in which they lived. Despite his importance as a historian and writer, Paulus Diaconus is not as well-known as some of his contemporaries. This is partly due to the fact that his works were written in Latin and were not widely translated until later centuries. Nonetheless, his contributions to the field of history and hagiography are significant and continue to be studied and appreciated by scholars today.
