Pattern Play Playing Cards Calendar is an innovative dual-purpose design product that combines recreational playing cards with a decorative calendar, created as a response to the social isolation experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. This thoughtfully crafted design features 54 unique illustrations characterized by bold colors and organic shapes, printed on premium 310 gsm black core cards with matte cover finishes. The calendar component showcases 12 enlarged artworks paired with curated one-liners for each month, printed on 250 gsm specialty paper measuring 270mm x 430mm. The playing cards, sized at 63mm x 88mm x 19mm, reimagine traditional card designs by replacing standard suits with original illustrations, including kaleidoscope-inspired court cards and distinctive pattern designs for numbered cards. The project, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design category, demonstrates exceptional attention to detail in balancing originality with practicality. The design team conducted extensive research on playing card manufacturing techniques and materials to ensure optimal quality and user experience. The calendar pages are designed to double as standalone posters, offering versatile decorative options for various spaces. This innovative approach to everyday objects exemplifies how thoughtful design can inject positivity and inspiration into daily life, while maintaining high standards of functionality and aesthetic appeal.
