Pasteurisers
Pasteurization is a process of heating a liquid, usually milk, to a specific temperature for a set amount of time in order to kill harmful bacteria and extend the shelf life of the product. The process was named after Louis Pasteur, a French microbiologist who developed the technique in the 1860s. Pasteurizers are the machines used to carry out this process. The basic principle of pasteurization is to heat the liquid to a temperature of at least 72°C (161°F) for 15 seconds, or to a higher temperature for a shorter period of time. This temperature is sufficient to kill most of the harmful bacteria present in the liquid, including E. coli, Salmonella, and Listeria. The pasteurization process is essential for ensuring the safety of milk and other dairy products, as well as many other food and beverage products. There are two main types of pasteurizers: batch pasteurizers and continuous pasteurizers. Batch pasteurizers are designed for small-scale operations and can process a few hundred liters of liquid at a time. They are typically used by small dairy farms and artisanal cheesemakers. Continuous pasteurizers, on the other hand, are designed for large-scale operations and can process thousands of liters of liquid per hour. They are commonly used by large dairy companies and food manufacturers. In addition to milk and dairy products, pasteurizers are also used to process other liquids, such as fruit juices, beer, and wine. The pasteurization process can help to improve the flavor and quality of these products, as well as extend their shelf life.
