Parametric Pendant Pendant light is an innovative lighting fixture that exemplifies the harmonious fusion of digital fabrication techniques and traditional craftsmanship, created by Canadian designer Colin Westeinde. This sophisticated lighting solution represents a groundbreaking approach to pendant light design through its unique combination of parametric design principles and artisanal glassblowing techniques. The design employs a Grasshopper script to generate infinitely variable geometric patterns that are subsequently water jet cut from copper sheets, creating distinctive three-dimensional forms. Each piece features a smoke grey glass bubble that is hand-blown directly into the copper framework, resulting in a dynamic interaction between materials where the molten glass responds to the copper shell while simultaneously affecting the metal's structure and patina. The pendant's dimensions vary between 203-304mm x 254-355mm in height, suspended by a single structural and conductive cord measuring 1524mm in length. This sophisticated lighting fixture, which earned the Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category, demonstrates exceptional innovation in its approach to mass customization while maintaining artisanal quality. The design successfully addresses the challenge of incorporating standardized electrical and hanging components within a variable form, featuring a 127mm oil-rubbed brass canopy that complements the naturally heat-patinated copper and blackened brass elements.
