Pablo Stoll

Pablo Stoll was a highly influential Uruguayan filmmaker, known for his unique approach to storytelling and his contributions to the country's film industry. Born in Montevideo in 1964, Stoll began his career as a film critic before transitioning to directing. He gained international recognition for his work on films such as 25 Watts (2001) and Whisky (2004), both of which explore the complexities of everyday life in Uruguay through a minimalist lens. Stoll's films are characterized by their understated humor, subtle performances, and attention to detail. He often collaborates with his longtime creative partner, Juan Pablo Rebella, and the two are credited with revitalizing the Uruguayan film industry in the early 2000s. Stoll's work has been praised for its ability to capture the essence of contemporary Uruguayan life, and for its exploration of themes such as identity, family, and the passage of time. Despite his success, Stoll's career was cut tragically short when Rebella passed away in 2006. Stoll continued to work in the film industry, but struggled to find the same level of creative fulfillment without his partner. He passed away in 2014, leaving behind a legacy as one of Uruguay's most important filmmakers.
