Ox-Eye Dormer

An ox-eye dormer is a type of roof dormer in which the roof window projects out beyond the roof plane. The roof window is usually a curved shape and resembles the eye of an ox, hence the name. It is a common feature of Tudor and Gothic Revival architecture. The dormer is typically constructed from timber and may be decorated with carved stone or brickwork. The ox-eye dormer is a functional element of the building, allowing natural light and ventilation into the attic or upper floor spaces. Its design also adds aesthetic value, with the curved form and decorative elements giving the exterior of the building a unique character.
