Owndays Interior Design is a sophisticated residential renovation project completed in 2021, exemplifying minimalist design principles through its innovative interpretation of the rhinoceros exoskeleton as a biomorphic inspiration. This interior design solution, created by Chen Wei Chun, addresses the challenges of renovating a 38-year-old apartment spanning 82 square meters in Taipei, Taiwan, transforming it into a contemporary living space for a family of four. The design's distinctive approach lies in its masterful integration of large-area artificial leather and wall coverings, separated by titanium-plated metal inner walls that effectively manage seasonal expansion and ensure durability. The spatial composition optimizes the relationship between volume and circulation, particularly focusing on child-safety considerations by minimizing protruding shapes in the main façade. The project, which earned recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional material application through its innovative leather adhesion techniques and sophisticated space-planning solutions. The design philosophy of less is more, function is form manifests in the seamless integration of various functional spaces - including three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, kitchen, and laundry balcony - within the dividing lines between leather and wall covering elements, creating a visually cohesive and practically efficient living environment that addresses both aesthetic and functional requirements while maintaining visual stability and tactile appeal.
