Owl Chair Chair
Owl Chair Chair is an innovative children's furniture design that exemplifies the fusion of Japanese cultural traditions with contemporary design principles. Created by designer Satoshi Itasaka, this transformative piece draws inspiration from traditional Japanese practices of Furoshiki (cloth wrapping) and Origami (paper folding), translating these ancient arts into a functional, child-friendly furniture piece. The chair is crafted from a single piece of EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) material, measuring W445 × H400 × D400 when assembled and W980 × H580 × D30 when unfolded, demonstrating remarkable space efficiency. This material choice is particularly noteworthy for its lightweight properties, flexibility, durability, and safety features, making it ideal for children's furniture. The design's innovative approach lies in its tool-free assembly process, allowing children to participate in the construction of their own furniture, thereby fostering creativity and spatial understanding. The chair's unique folding mechanism, reminiscent of origami techniques, enables it to transform from a flat sheet into a sturdy, functional seating solution, addressing both storage efficiency and environmental concerns through its minimal shipping volume. The design has been recognized with a Silver A' Design Award in the Baby, Kids and Children's Products Design category, acknowledging its exceptional contribution to children's furniture design. This recognition highlights the chair's success in combining educational value, safety considerations, and innovative design principles while maintaining environmental consciousness through its recyclable materials and efficient production process.
