Ovo Melody Toy For Visual Disable
Ovo Melody Toy for Visual Disable is an innovative musical learning device designed to make music education accessible to visually impaired individuals while also serving as an engaging toy for users of all abilities. Developed by designers Marco Guariglia and Jui Ju Lin, this interactive instrument combines traditional toy mechanics with modern technology to create an intuitive music-making experience. The design features a track-based system reminiscent of classic ball-rolling toys, enhanced with magnetic nodes of varying strengths that correspond to different musical notes. Each component is thoughtfully marked with braille notation, making it fully accessible to visually impaired users. The system operates through a sophisticated mechanism where a specially designed ball containing magnetic sensors detects the different magnetic strengths of the nodes and transmits this data via Bluetooth to a base station, which then produces the corresponding musical notes. The base station accommodates multiple instrument sounds, including trumpet, piano, and guitar, allowing users to experiment with different musical timbres. The device, measuring 300mm in width, 80mm in depth, and 390mm in height, comes with instructional cards featuring preset melody arrangements with movable square locators, enabling users to recreate existing songs or compose their own music. This educational tool, which earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition, represents a significant advancement in inclusive design, particularly addressing the needs that emerged during the global shift to home-based learning. The project, initiated in 2019 in Taipei, demonstrates exceptional attention to user experience through its extensive prototyping and testing process, resulting in optimized placement of braille notations and intuitive interface design.
