Overhead Travelling Cranes
An overhead travelling crane, also known as a bridge crane, is a type of crane that consists of a horizontal beam, known as a bridge, supported by two or more end trucks that travel along a runway. The bridge is equipped with a hoist, which is used to lift and move heavy loads. Overhead travelling cranes are commonly used in industrial settings, such as manufacturing plants, warehouses, and construction sites, to move materials and equipment from one location to another. Overhead travelling cranes come in a variety of configurations, including single girder, double girder, and gantry cranes. Single girder cranes have one bridge beam that is supported by two end trucks, while double girder cranes have two bridge beams that are supported by four end trucks. Gantry cranes are similar to overhead travelling cranes, but they are supported by legs that run along the ground, rather than a runway. Overhead travelling cranes are typically operated by a trained crane operator, who uses a pendant control or a remote control to move the crane and hoist. Safety features, such as limit switches and overload protection, are built into the crane to prevent accidents and ensure safe operation.
