Osoi Design Studio Office is an innovative architectural transformation project that exemplifies the creative adaptation of industrial space into a multifunctional design studio environment. Located in Shanghai, this remarkable renovation project, completed in 2018, successfully converted a 72-square-meter old factory building into a 160-square-meter dynamic workspace through ingenious vertical expansion across five levels. The design, conceived by father-son duo Xuanmin Jin and Xiang Jin, masterfully integrates traditional architectural elements with contemporary design principles, featuring two central patios that facilitate natural light penetration and spatial flow. The studio's aesthetic is characterized by a sophisticated monochromatic palette of black, white, and gray, complemented by the designers' original photography works that serve as both decorative elements and artistic installations. The space demonstrates exceptional technical innovation through its split-level design, custom-made integrated steel staircase, and meticulous attention to material preservation, including hand-cut and polished terrazzo stones and exposed original reinforced concrete that preserves the building's historical character. This transformative project, which earned recognition at the A' Design Award competition in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, successfully combines office functionality with exhibition space and an art salon, creating a versatile environment that promotes creative collaboration while respecting the building's industrial heritage.
