Oriental Wisdom Office
Oriental Wisdom Office is an exemplary interior design project that masterfully integrates traditional Oriental elements with contemporary functionality, created by designers Ting Hao Juan and Nien Chu Juan for an Education and Training Center in Taipei. This sophisticated 132.24-square-meter space serves as a multifunctional facility dedicated to Chinese medical culture, accommodating up to 50 members for cross-strait exchange programs, educational activities, and document storage. The design overcomes significant architectural challenges, particularly the constraints of a 2.07-meter ceiling height, through innovative solutions including open-form layouts and strategic use of gratings with smooth, flowing curves. The interior's aesthetic philosophy draws deeply from Oriental wisdom, incorporating elements such as traditional herbal medicine storage cabinets and scroll motifs, reimagined through a modern lens. The material palette combines stone, lacquered glass, metal, steel-brushed wood veneer, and jade flooring to create rich visual layering, while the sophisticated implementation of movable partitions and whiteboards enhances the space's versatility. The design, which won a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, exemplifies a harmonious fusion of functionality and cultural heritage, featuring dark wooden walls that create depth while concealing auxiliary spaces, and ceiling decorations that abstract traditional herbal storage systems into contemporary display elements. This thoughtful integration of Eastern philosophical principles with modern design sensibilities creates an atmosphere of tranquility and sophistication, effectively promoting the preservation and advancement of Chinese medical culture in a contemporary context.
