Optical Tables

Optical tables, also known as optical breadboards, are specialized work surfaces designed to provide a stable and vibration-free platform for optical experiments and measurements. These tables are typically made of a solid core material, such as granite or aluminum, which is covered with a layer of vibration-absorbing material, such as sorbothane or neoprene. The top surface of the table is often coated with a grid of threaded holes, which allow for the precise placement and adjustment of optical components, such as lenses, mirrors, and detectors. The primary purpose of an optical table is to minimize the effects of vibrations, which can cause unwanted movement of optical components and degrade the accuracy of measurements. Optical tables are often used in applications such as interferometry, laser spectroscopy, and microscopy, where even small vibrations can have a significant impact on the results. To achieve the highest level of vibration isolation, optical tables are often placed on specialized supports, such as pneumatic isolators or active vibration control systems. Optical tables are available in a wide range of sizes and configurations to meet the needs of different experiments and applications. Some tables are designed for use in cleanroom environments, while others are optimized for use with specific types of optical components or instruments. In addition, many optical table manufacturers offer a variety of accessories, such as optical mounts, vibration isolation systems, and cable management systems, to enhance the functionality and versatility of the tables.
