OneSky Global Centre NGO School
OneSky Global Centre NGO School is an innovative 16,000-square-foot children's educational facility located in one of Hong Kong's most economically challenged districts, designed to provide comprehensive early childhood education and support services to at-risk families. The architectural design, conceived by Vicky Chan, masterfully integrates pedagogical principles with spatial design, featuring a three-story structure that harmoniously combines educational, recreational, and community spaces. The facility's thoughtful layout includes a ground floor with a 5-meter-tall communal space featuring interactive play structures and artistic installations, a first floor housing a licensed childcare centre for children aged 0-3 years, and a second floor dedicated to flexible learning spaces for children aged 3-6 years, along with administrative offices and training facilities. The design philosophy emphasizes the creation of nurturing environments through the strategic use of materials and colors, incorporating warm, natural elements in learning spaces while introducing vibrant accents in specific areas to enhance children's developmental experiences. Notable design features include one-way observation mirrors for non-disruptive teacher training, a semi-outdoor lobby that transforms a busy street corner into a community gathering space, and specialized areas for parent education and skill development. The project, which received recognition with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, demonstrates exceptional innovation in addressing social needs through architectural design, serving approximately 3,200 children and parents annually while effectively overcoming various structural and environmental challenges inherent to the existing building.
