Once Upon A Time... Residental
Once Upon a time... Residental is an innovative interior design project that masterfully addresses the challenges of compact living spaces in Hong Kong through intelligent spatial integration and multifunctional design solutions. This 745-square-foot residential space, designed by Ronald Cheung, transforms the conventional limitations of urban living into opportunities for creative expression and practical functionality. The design concept draws inspiration from childhood playgrounds and the timeless appeal of hide-and-seek games, incorporating these elements into a sophisticated living environment that serves multiple purposes simultaneously. The project's distinctive approach to space utilization enables each area to fulfill three to five different functions, exemplified by a dining room that doubles as a kitchen and music space, and a living room that integrates children's play areas including a slide exit. The design philosophy emphasizes the creation of secret bases and personal spaces for children while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic characterized by blue sky and white cloud motifs. Completed in December 2018, this Iron A' Design Award-winning project in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category demonstrates exceptional expertise in space optimization, incorporating high-quality materials such as wood, tiles, carpet, and marble. The design's success lies in its ability to create a safe, engaging, and developmentally supportive environment for children while maintaining sophisticated functionality for adults, effectively addressing the spatial constraints of urban living through innovative design solutions that enhance both the practical and experiential aspects of the home.
