ON/OFF Exhibition Booth
ON/OFF Exhibition booth is an innovative temporary exhibition space design that exemplifies a groundbreaking approach to spatial design through its exploration of dualistic concepts and visual illusions. Created by Chinese designer Thomas Tse, this 91-square-meter installation represents a significant reformation of three fundamental design principles: publicity, openness, and fun. The exhibition space is architecturally composed of three half-closed and half-open boxes, masterfully employing two-dimensional design elements within three-dimensional space to create compelling visual illusions. The design's sophisticated use of kablon materials for the exterior structures establishes an engaging dialogue between open and closed spaces, while the cascade lines at the entrance and ceiling create a dynamic visual experience that continuously shifts between two-dimensional and three-dimensional perspectives. The installation's semitransparent walls, crafted from sunshine sheets, generate an intriguing interplay between interior and exterior spaces, offering tantalizating glimpses of misty, vague images that challenge visitors' spatial perception. This innovative approach to exhibition design earned recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, acknowledging its creative contribution to contemporary spatial design. The project, completed in 2013 in Guangzhou, China, incorporates multimedia interactive experiences to interpret its themes, while its environmentally conscious construction methods demonstrate a commitment to social responsibility in design practice.
