Olympia Loft Apartment

Olympia Loft Apartment

Olympia Loft Apartment is a transformative architectural and interior design project that exemplifies innovative space optimization in urban residential environments, converting a 55-square-meter single-floor flat into a 77-square-meter double-height apartment. Located in Kensington Olympia, London, this remarkable renovation project, completed in 2017, demonstrates sophisticated spatial planning and architectural ingenuity. The design, which earned a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category, features an open-plan layout that maximizes natural light and creates visual connectivity between different levels through a full-width internal glazing system. The apartment's distinctive characteristics include a master bedroom positioned on a mezzanine-balcony level that appears to float above the living area, while being anchored by a linear kitchen design. The project successfully addresses multiple design challenges through thoughtful solutions, including optimized storage spaces, strategically placed rooflights, and the careful integration of exposed brick elements that pay homage to the building's terraced nature. The interior aesthetic combines clean, white surfaces that effectively diffuse natural light with industrial elements, such as the unique incorporation of a TVR engine as a bespoke table support in the living area. This project stands as a testament to the possibilities of modern urban living, where spatial constraints are transformed into design opportunities through careful planning and innovative architectural solutions.
