Olympia 66 Retail & Shopping Mall

Olympia 66 Retail & Shopping Mall is an architecturally distinctive retail development located in the Xigang District of Dalian, China, embodying a harmonious fusion of contemporary design and traditional Chinese symbolism. Completed in 2015, this innovative commercial complex spans 221,900 square meters across seven floors, incorporating three levels of basement parking and multiple retail spaces. The architectural concept draws inspiration from the traditional Chinese motif of twin carp, symbolizing wealth and abundance, manifested through the building's flowing, curved forms and dynamic spatial arrangement. The structure's exterior features a sophisticated facade composed of hexagonal modules with integrated lighting effects that evoke the reflective scales of a carp, while the interior spaces are organized along sweeping circulation paths that mirror the graceful movement of swimming fish. The design demonstrates exceptional environmental consciousness through its intelligent architectural solutions, including an insulated roof system that effectively manages heat loss in winter and solar gain in summer, particularly suited to northern China's climate conditions. The building's innovative layout creates a continuous mobius loop of retail spaces, maximizing shop frontage while providing an engaging customer journey through carefully sequenced leisure and event spaces. Notable features include two dramatic atria illuminated by strategically positioned clerestory glazing, an ice rink, and outdoor dining terraces. The project's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility is evidenced by its LEED Gold pre-certification, while its multiple entrance points and permeable ground-level design enhance urban connectivity and integration. This architectural masterpiece, recognized with a Golden A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building and Structure Design category, represents a significant achievement in retail architecture, successfully balancing functional efficiency with artistic expression and cultural sensitivity.
