Olfactory Design

Olfactory Design is the use of scent to shape how people feel and act in a space or during an event. In Experience Design, scents can be layered with light, sound, and touch to guide emotions and memories. Designers can use micro-diffusers to release scents at certain times or in certain areas, making each part of a space feel unique. Research shows that people remember places better when a scent is present, so adding a signature scent can help a brand or event stand out. Scents can be chosen to match the mood or purpose of a space, such as using citrus to help people feel awake or lavender to help them relax.
